“The series “Is & Isn’t” features an ongoing collection of unmanipulated yet surreal photographs. Viewed as a whole, the snapshot-like images create a wandering journey through optical illusions, transporting the viewer to a foreign yet familiar place. Eban has experienced life oscillating back and forth between two disparate and complex cultural landscapes, Israel and America. The intimate 35mm photographs are a negotiation of place, featuring layered and paradoxical subject matter—inside vs. outside, native vs. transplant. Landing somewhere between the concrete and the intangible, the images insinuate buried histories and multiple levels of truth and fiction.”
